Hong Kong’s parking meter system returned to normal on Tuesday after a morning outage lasting nearly four hours, according to RTHK. The Transport Department said the operator notified it at about 8:20 a.m. that the system was out of service.
The department’s first notice, issued at 10:34 a.m., said urgent repairs were underway. A second notice at 12:25 p.m. said the system had resumed normal operation. The department did not give a precise restoration time.
Parking meter outage under investigation
The cause of the parking meter outage has not been established. The department has asked the operator to investigate and submit a report to help prevent a recurrence. It said there was currently no evidence indicating the system had been attacked, which does not rule out every possible cause.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan told RTHK that officials had instructed HKT, the operator, to report as soon as possible. She hoped to receive an initial report within 24 hours.
For parking-meter inquiries, the department lists 2332 3700 as its service hotline.
